The Covid Crusher

Created in 2020 and currently displayed on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This Electric-Kinetic lighted sculpture has been crafted from the best reclaimed materials NYC has to offer…a public display of positivity ….bringing light to a dark time. Stay strong NYC!!

Some materials present in the Covid Crusher:

A reclaimed hardwood plank saved from a century old teachers desk in Queens forms the base. The hammers’ head is formed around a Styrofoam shipping container. The handle of the hammer is crafted from an antique table leg. The historic cobblestone used as a counterweight is from Washington Square Park (before the 2014 renovation....cleaned thoroughly fyi). There are three leather belts, and ancient metamorphic rocks known as Manhattan Schist gathered from the island of which it was named.

The Covid Crusher was built during the NY Quarantine of 2020. It was on display on the Upper West Side of Manhattan facing Columbus Avenue during much of the Covid 19 Pandemic.
